The Cut is part of New York magazine. I don’t think anyone intended for it to be relatable everywhere in the country. I’ve lived in New York for 7 years and these all make sense to me. I agree with 99% of them. It sounds like you’re offended that people from a different city have a different lifestyle than you. Just because it went viral doesn’t mean it is about you.

Haha Paul's wine review really struck a nerve with me! I work in natural wine and sell a LOT of Beaujolais and Beaujolais cru. One of our most popular styles not to mention probably my favorite wine to drink! I've had so many incredible bottles from producers like Foillard and Lapierre... much of modern natural wine production was influenced by the "gang of four" coming from Beaujolais and it seems so insane to write off the whole region and express such confusion and outrage when discussing it! But I have gathered that Paul does not come from a natural wine background and his tastes reflect a different palate than mine. I was just so shocked I felt compelled to write in!

If you guys are still in Palms Springs you should see if they have any for sale at Dead or Alive and maybe it'll give you a different impression than a Bevmo bottle!

I had many similar reactions to the etiquette post – varying from a hearty head nod to skepticism. It wasn't until I read your insight on the "New York"-ness of the piece that I realized, as a Chicagoan, how many of the "city" rules just do not apply here – specifically the allergies at a dinner party (there's a level of accommodation that can work) and splitting the bill (just be upfront about how you want to handle it). Chicago is such a midwestern city that some of the harsh boundaries that would work in New York simply sound kind of rude and unwelcoming to me.
