I watched clips of the interview (obviously loving it) but a friend convinced me to listen to the whole thing and I'm so glad I did! I think both Alex and Kamala did a great job navigating the topics in a way that felt appropriate for the podcast's wide audience. It felt personal and shared some great quotes/facts.
I'm still incredibly nervous for the election and it baffles me that it feels so close of a race...
Your question about humility and ambition makes me think about my late mother, who many described as “modest, but not humble.” My mom was a super successful consultant, rubbing elbows with all the influential business and political leaders of our city. But she never boasted about who she knew, or her success. And if you asked her to describe her ability, she wasn’t shy to share just how damn good she was at her job. Her confidence and kindness radiated out of her. She was never too busy to meet with anyone that wanted to talk to her. She was generous with her time, and able to acknowledge that her time was valuable. And her ambition was palpable; she died suddenly at 65 but everyone who knew her knew she would have kept working until she physically couldn’t. She continues to be my North Star. If she were still with us, she’d be absolutely kicking her feet with glee over Kamala’s candidacy and quotes like the ones you pulled from CHD!
I wasn't going to listen to this podcast (she already has my vote) but now I think I will. Appreciate you writing so thoughtfully about it, it got me even more excited to VOTE!
Bravo bravo. If the world had more women in positions of power, it would be a far more peaceful and reasonable place to live.
